Packing for a trip is hard. You never know what you are going to need, or what is going to be useless. I had never been to SE Asia, so I didn’t know what was available at the pharmacy or store and also didn’t know what the prices would be like. So, I figured better bring more than regret bringing less. While the items might seem like a lot, and they are compared to what backpackers would bring, I found them not to take up too much room. And they have been useful so far. Below is what I brought in terms of toiletries and first aid kit.
Plane Essentials
These are the things (minus the no-jet lag, plus therapy oil which is in the last picture) that I like to take anytime I travel. I put these in a baggy and bring them on the plane and have them next to my bedside table wherever I sleep. I find these items comforting and useful.

- No Jet Lag- I don’t think these work, but it doesn’t hurt to try!
- Emergen-C– I prefer the orange flavor. I like to have these packets on hand for when I’m traveling and if I start to feel sick or worn out I take a packet with water. I haven’t taken any since I’m eating a ton of fresh fruit (hello natures vitamin C!) here in Asia.
- Ear plugs- ESSENTIAL for me sleeping on planes and at noisy hotels.
- Hairbrush
- Liken Deodorant I use non antiperspirant deodorant, which is much healthier for your lymph nodes and your purification system. Liken (unscented) has worked really well for me.
- Calendula- I use this on dry skin, chapped lips, and sunburns.
- Compact Mirror
- Heritage Rose Spray– Great for freshening up, misting dry skin and getting rid of bad odors on the plane. Note: I don’t use it when I’m out and about in South East Asia for fear of attracting misquotes.
- Natural hand sanitizer
- Tea- I like to bring a few herbal tea bags. Just ask the flight attendant for hot water and add your tea!
- Welada hand cream– for when my hands get dry on long flights.
- Essential oils- These were mixes: deep rest (I have their sample size) and Blissful Joy from Mapi (it seems to be discontinued).
- Sample size face cream
- Tea Tree oil (I put some in a travel sized container)
- Bug Spray
- Helena Meyer’s deodorant. Another great deodorant.
- Extra hand sanitizer
- Badger sunscreen (I wouldn’t bring this again, while the ingredients are great, I don’t like applying it).
- Dr. Hauskha face cleansers, sadly the first week of my trip I lost my big face cleanser. What remains is day oil, rejuvenating face mask (I dab on blemishes) and face cream. Their kits are great for traveling.
- Face toner (almost out 🙁 )
- Beauty supplies: eye-lash curler, tweezers, Bare Minerals face powder and travel brush, eye shadow/brush, eyebrow filler/brush, hair things and one pair of earrings.
- Coconut oil
- Extra calendula
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, tongue scraper (can’t live without this!)
Not pictured (sanitary napkins)
First Aid Kit/Other Things
- Laundry detergent (I knew I could buy this while traveling, but I wanted a little that was non-scented and nice for hand washing)
- Therapy Oil (This goes into my plane essentials as well)
- Sting stop
- Bandaids, gauze
- Anti-Diarrheal (note, this is only to be taken during urgent situations like on a bus or somewhere you can’t access the toilet), aspirin, Bacitracin- first aid antibiotic ointment (for cuts) and baby aspirin.
- Traumeel Gel (gel for bruises)
- Homeopathics- oscillococcinum (for onset of fever), arnica, nux vomica, arsenicun album (travelers diarrhea)
- Pills: grapessed extract and oregano oil (good for stomach issues, sickness), probiotics and digestive enzymes (good gut health, indigestion), New Chapter’s every women one daily, minerals.
- Incense, I actually bought this in Thailand. I find it very nice for when a hotel room smells musty or smokey.
- Dr. Bronners soap
- Tinctures: Peppermint extract (for stomach aches), wormwood/clove (for parasites), echinacea goldenseal (immune booster, take at first sign of sickness), cramp bark (really helpful for menstrual cramps).
- Thermometer- important to see if you have a fever (in Malaria/Degune fever land it’s important to go to the doctor if you have a fever).
- Bach’s rescue remedy
And there you have it, my long list of what I brought! Of course I could of brought less, but so far, after about three months of traveling I have used probably 90% of these items.
